Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
As West Bengal gears up for the Lok Sabha elections, political violence erupts across the state, marking a turbulent start to the electoral season. In Pandabeswar, tensions soar as Trinamool workers allegedly set fire to the shop of a BJP Mahila Morcha leader, Reena Thakur, late on Saturday night. Thakur, who joined BJP six months ago, alleges threats and vandalism by Trinamool miscreants, demanding the installation of CCTV for security.
Simultaneously, in Krishnanagar, under Nadia district, the residence of Trinamool leader Khokon Khan is targeted with a bomb attack, signaling further unrest. With incidents of violence escalating, the Election Commission prepares to deploy 25,000 central forces personnel for the first phase of elections on April 19, covering Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, and Jalpaiguri constituencies. This measure aims to ensure the safety and integrity of the electoral process amidst rising tensions.
However, concerns persist as a shooting incident unfolds in Baharampur, where a man named Sushant Kumar Mandal is reportedly shot by his son in the Jora Shiv Mandir area of Saidabad at 7 am on Sunday. Police swiftly respond to the scene, initiating investigations into the incident. Against this backdrop, the Chief Electoral Officer emphasizes the importance of maintaining restraint in campaign rhetoric, underscoring the need for peaceful and fair elections in the state.
